392 Kuya Gavin’s Picture Frame Making with Virlanie Foundation

Written by Kuya Harvard

It was a back to back art weekend for U! Happy Events. We started our first with Virlanie Foundation, the largest private non-sectarian child caring institution in Manila. The foundation serves children found living in the streets as well as those referred by other institutions. They work to prevent the future physical and psychological abuse of children.

As we do more outreach with Virlanie Foundation, we will continue to partner in holistic approach to children’s development. One of the ways is to provide learning workshops like the arts. Kuya Robby led the teaching of creative picture frame making. All 30 children got an Ate and Kuya to assist them.

The morning was filled with happy memories. Besides the arts, we also had a new game, Tanong-tanong lang. (Questions, questions only). Here groups decide together on the correct answer for every trivia question. The social workers of Virlanie danced every time the letter they were holding was picked.
We got some singing and a bit of dancing too. Kuya Milan Bermejo, German, performed with us his song, Salamat Diyos sa Pag-asa (Thank you God for Hope).

He made this for victims of super typhoon Yolanda which hit Visayas exactly a year ago, November 8, 2013. The song reminds us of the power of hope despite the challenges we face. 5 kids from Virlanie performed a Filipino medley as well.

Towards the end, we got the Que family in front to sing Happy Birthday for their 6 year old Gavin. We thank husband and wife, Andrew and Michelle for sponsoring this awesome day.
The kids also received school supplies and Happy Haus doughnuts.
