318 Ate Mafe’s Pencil Holders Workshop with Tuklasan

Written by Kuya Harvard

It was a hot but lively morning with 25 children from Tuklasan and kids from Baranggay 20, Manila. It was Ate Mafe de Dios’ second event with us. The last time was December 26, 2012 for kids battling cancer of Philippine Children’s Medical Center. At a young age of 24, she’s starting a tradition whenever she visits back from Texas. She signed up for another outreach next year. We appreciate hearts like hers. 🙂

Since it was a weekday, Kuya Harvard had a small team in tow. He was only with photographer, Ate July and artist, Kuya Robby. We were fortunate to have the Tuklasan staff helping out the whole time. This is our 7th year of partnership with this center. We love their group and the kids they treasure.

Ate Mafe went with 4 others volunteers- her family. She was with her brother and sister plus 2 cousins. After introducing themselves to the kids, we had them partner with 5 kids each. Kuya Harvard went on to practice their art skills with one of our own games- Bring Me Art. In this game, the whole team had to raise up an item together by cutting a piece of paper. After 12 rounds, Ate Mafe’s team claimed victory! Some of the bring me items were star, heart, shirt, scissors and a person.

Kuya Robby was next. As an art teacher, he immediately connected with the kids for the workshop. The output was their own pencil holders. This is useful for the upcoming school year. As you see in the photos, kids took the time to design it with detail. The cups were in different colors and was brought to life with human like features. There was so much creativity! None of the cups looked the same.

We do art workshops to instill discipline, helping each other and creativity building.
Ate Mafe and family gave away school supplies and we had a happy morning group photo after. 🙂
